Lectionary A lectionary is a schedule of Bible readings that are used in worship throughout the year. The Revised Common Lectionary can be found online as a service of the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. Each scriptural entry also includes related art, hymns, and prayer.
Transubstantiation The belief in some Christian religions that the bread and wine given at Communion become the body and blood of Jesus Christ when they are blessed.
Sola scriptura Latin for "by scripture alone." Refers to the belief that the Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of doctrine and practice.
Apocrypha Biblical and related writings outside of the traditionally accepted canon.
Hermeneutics The study of the methods of interpreting Biblical text so that we may understand and apply scripture.
Eschatology The part of theology concerned with death, judgment, and the final destiny of the soul and of humankind. FYI: As I've progressed along my journey of faith, I've encountered a good deal of new vocabulary. Each Tuesday, I'll share a term and its definition. -KJ
